The Best is yet to come
In a world which is always presenting us with the ‘next best thing’ – the new tablet, car, job, vacation – we were once again overwhelmed by the ‘best thing’ God has to offer us, a new and deeper relationship with Him.
The same words Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well were addressed to the over 200 participants who attended this year’s SEVEN weekend:
“If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water”
(John 4:10).
They did ask and they did receive. It was an immense joy and privilege to witness the amazing work of God in the lives of so many people during this retreat. How true Pope Francis’ words are: “The joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus” (Evangelii Gaudium pgh 1). Words cannot describe how awesome the gentle and loving Presence of God was in our midst, and the miracles He performed in our hearts.

Yet Advent reminds us that the very best is still yet to come. The experience of God’s Holy Spirit is a foretaste of the joy of Heaven where we all hope to spend eternity. In the mean time we need to persevere in our walk with the Lord, to grow deeper in our knowledge of Him, to reach out beyond ourselves in love and to gently share with those who would hear – ‘the best is yet to come’ and we have tasted some of it already!
