The God who still comes

People seek God without always realising that He is One who is seeking to come to them first. It is only because of His coming that we can do the ‘going’. It is because He seeks us that we can find Him. Jesus didn’t come to this earth so that we could marvel at such a great act of love on God’s part some 2000 years ago. His death and resurrection opened the way for His coming once again to dwell in our hearts, so we can be overwhelmingly blessed by His Presence and become the sons and daughters He created us to be.

God comes to you even today when you call Him. He speaks, He acts, He forgives, He heals, He consoles, He shatters our complacency. It is us who sadly do not make the time to welcome Him or even block Him out because of our indifference and superficiality. But He comes to us in prayer, in the Eucharist, in His Word, in prayer gatherings, in communal praise and worship, in the charisms of healing and deliverance, in the love of fellow Christians, in the silence of our hearts.

From our part we need to go to Him over and over  again. Repenting of sin and renouncing our false idols, we enter into true communion with Him. This is no illusion; this is the truth millions of people are experiencing worldwide. He is the God who comes to all who call upon Him in truth.

The prophet Hosea says

‘Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him’
Hosea 6:3

So yes let us call on Him again right now from our heart. And, as the rest of the verse assures us

‘As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.’
Hosea 6:3

He really is the God who still comes!
