New Year Resolution: Now is the Time

It is easy to make New Year resolutions which maybe we’ll implement ‘some time’ in this coming year. But when it comes to our relationship with the Lord, now is always the time.

In our very secularised world there still is a hunger for meaning and spirituality. So many people are discovering or rediscovering a new relationship with Jesus and the deep union He calls us to have with Him. Although this very revelation is itself a gift of God, pursuing it to the end requires an effort on our part, something we should see to now.

There will always be circumstances and situations which make us put off seeking a deeper relationship with the Lord till later. We know we should pray, but perhaps when I settle in my job; we know we should meet the Lord in Scripture but maybe when I finish my assignments; we acknowledge that it is very important for us to grow in faith with others but we’ll try and sort it out when we are less busy; we acknowledge that holiness is the vocation of the baptised disciples but it can wait some more. Yet the sources of all unhappiness is sin and its effects so the sooner we deal with it, the happier we will be.

We do not know what the future holds. So the time to respond to the grace the Lord gives us too seek Him is now. This is the best New Year resolution I can make. Now!

For he says,
“In the time of my favour I heard you,
and in the day of salvation I helped you.”
I tell you, now is the time of God’s favour, now is the day of salvation.
2Cor. 6:2

Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.  Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.  “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.  “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.  As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,  so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
Is. 55:6-11

Wishing you a blessed New Year
