Read Luke 3:21-37
“And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased”
Luke 3:22
In this verse we get a beautiful snapshot of the Trinity: The Father who affirms Jesus even before He has actually started the ministry. The Holy Spirit anoints Jesus for the upcoming work of the Kingdom. The Lord continues to respond perfectly through the 3 years of public life and the Passion in the Land of Israel which we are about to visit. This is the climax and human history and that is why Luke gives us the genealogy of Jesus. The new perfect Adam is now here and He will reverse the effects of the sinful act of disobedience of the first Adam.
You will note that the word ‘son’ is found in God the Father’s words of affirmation and 76 times in the genealogy to emphasise that Jesus is both fully God and fully human.
God loves us not because of any of our qualifications but because He is love. He addressed the same words to you because in baptism you have been adopted into His Family: “You are my son, my daughter whom I love”.
Father, thank you for Jesus. Jesus thank you that you came. Holy Spirit thank you for dwelling in me. God help me love you more and more.
