Read Luke 6:37-45
"Forgive, and you will be forgiven”
Luke 6:37
Many Christians don’t realise just how serious their prayer is when in the ‘Our Father’ they ask God to forgive them their sins in the same way that they forgive those who have sinned against them: "Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you" (Col. 3:13). Forgiveness of those who have hurt us is not an option for the disciple of Jesus.
To forgive is not primarily a feeling but a decision which comes from the heart. Sometimes we need to forgive the same person again and again. For some people deep forgiveness is a journey. This process will often be accompanied by the healing of painful memories which we should not bury, but take to the Lord in prayer. We may also have to seek the help of a mature Christian who will be willing to pray with us.
Lord show me those people who I need to forgive, even those I may not necessarily be aware of my need to forgive. I ask you for the grace to release forgiveness from my heart.
