Read Luke 6:12-19
"The people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all"
Luke 6:19
Everything we do that bears fruit in the Kingdom is done only through prayer. Jesus Himself shows us this in the passage we have today. Before Jesus chose the Twelve Apostles, He literally spent the whole night praying to God. This probably happened in a place called Mount Arbel which we will be able to see clearly from our hotel in Galilee. The fact that Judas who ‘became’ a traitor too was one of the chosen ones shows us that even though God loves us, calls us and wants to use us, we can lose the plot along the way. So we really need to ask the Lord for the grace to persevere till the end whilst rejoicing in the fact that He has chosen us to love Him and serve Him. As a result of prayer, we are also filled the power of the Holy Spirit who heals, delivers and frees others through us.
This is from where we get the word ‘dynamite’ and it is also the same word Luke uses when he reports Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit to the disciples in the First Pentecost: "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8). It is the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives which transforms, touches the lives of people around us, empowers with the charismatic gifts of healing and deliverance from evil spirits and enables us to be witnesses of Jesus.
Lord I want to be a disciple of prayer, who spends time with you and is willing to receive the presence and power of the Holy Spirit in my life so I can be an effective witness of the Gospel.
