Free Food, Free Prayer – Lamps Mission
“Why are you giving food and drink for free?” This was the question some people asked when last Wednesday our Lamps Mission Teams positioned themselves outside 6 chapels in Malta to share their faith with those who were passing by.
Our answer to the question was that we wished to share something more than food, we wished to pray for those who wanted prayer. So hundreds of people, foreigners and locals, young and old entered the chapels at Valleta Waterfront, Marsaxlokk, Sliema, St Julians, Paceville and Mdina, lit a candle, wrote their prayer and posted it in a box which was placed in front of the blessed Sacrament. We are now committed to pray for them.
It was a great joy for the team to have this opportunity to reach out in this way. We wanted to give testimony that only Jesus can fill the void found in the human heart. Even when we pass through moments of suffering and difficulties our faith and hope are founded in God promises:
‘Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path’ (Ps 119:105)
The Lamps Mission Teams are already looking forward to going out on the streets again in the near future. It was Pope Francis himself who recently said
“Go out into the streets to evangelise, proclaiming the Gospel. Remember that the Church was born ‘in going forth’ that Pentecost morning (June 2014).
