7 New Things to Pray for in a New Year

1. For a New experience of God’s Love

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness
(Lam 3:23).

2. For a New Song of Joy

I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.  He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.  He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.   Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods
(Psa. 40:1-4).

3. For a New Heart

Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, O house of Israel?   For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live! (Ez 18: 31-32) I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.  And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws
(Ez 36;26-27)

4. For a New Sincerity

Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough?  Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast —as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth
(1 Cor 5:6-8).

5. For the grace to cultivate New Attitudes

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;   to be made new in the attitude of your minds;  and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
(Eph 4:22-24)

6. For openness to the New things God wants to lead me to

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.  See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland”
(Isa 43:18-19)

7. For a New desire and commitment to prayer and holiness

What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?  By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?  Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?   We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
(Rom 6:1-4).
